English Lesson Plan
Overview:Rosa Parks, the woman many consider the mother
of the U.S. civil rights movement, first became known when she refused
to give up her seat to white passengers Dec. 1, 1955. Parks, who died
Oct. 24, 2005 at age 92, was named one of Time magazine’s 20 most
influential heroes in June 1999.
Suggested time allotment: Writing prompt with in-class
assignment of 20 minutes or less.
Objectives
Students will:
1. Read the Time article and react to it and to your views of her impact.
2. Write a reaction paper on the topic: “Rosa Parks’s action
still has impact today. I can see this in ______________.”

8. Students use a variety of technological and informational
resources (e.g., libraries, databases, computer networks, video) to
gather and
synthesize information and to create and communicate knowledge.
